January 24th, 2010

As of Tuesday, Jan. 26th I will be in the company of the wonderful actors of “Female of the Species” to open at the Geffen in February, running until March 14.

I am understudying the role of Tess, played by Mireille Enos.  Other cast members are Josh Stamberg, Merritt Wever, David Arquette and Annette Benning…. Can’t wait to get into rehearsal to see how they have breathed life into the script – which is already quite fabulous, written by Joanna Murray-Smith.

The first day of a personal new year….

January 13th, 2010

If one is lucky, one has the time and freedom to reflect when this once-a-year event comes around.  I am in that lucky category….so, I reflect….

I think this past year of 2009 has been, for everyone, at least challenging and at most traumatizing.  The collapse of the economy and the residual rippling that still continues, seems to have caused a loss and subsequent mourning of confidence — in oneself, in one’s abilities and perceptions, and in one’s larger context; workplace, country, the meaning of human existence…

As we all regroup, (as this new decade seems to inspire at least the motivating spark to regroup no matter how much dust has crusted upon our boots), perhaps the first strategy to employ in order to create a living we desire is to acknowledge and accept exactly where we are now.  This idea is nothing new – it’s a very yogic concept; where is your mind/body this day, this moment?  Only from knowing this place can you meaningfully move and stretch further – both your mind and body.

So, today, January 13, 2010, in the midst of the Haitian tragedy, I will begin to hone in on where I am – mind/body/heart/soul – today.  I will reflect upon the trip that got me to this place and what I have learned.  Already – it is only 11am PST – people from all crannies and corners of my life have sent generous and joyful messages.  Each one reminds me of another piece of the puzzle of past….
